minimum number finder

world's simplest number tool

This web app quickly finds the minimum number between a bunch of numbers. To get the minimal value, just enter your list of numbers in the input field, adjust the separator between the numbers in the options below, and this utility will find the smallest number among them. Created by developers from team Browserling.

What is a minimum number finder?

This is an online browser-based program for finding the minimum number in the numeric sequence. It iterates over all the input numbers and prints out the smallest that it finds. It works with all rational numbers. Just to remind you, the rational numbers are all natural numbers (such as 1, 3, or 6), integers (such as -5, 0, or 4), decimals (such as 0.5, 2.8, or -1.01), or fractions (such as 1/2, 5/4, or -2/3). Each number in the input should be written on a new line. If you import a sequence in a different format that doesn't have numbers on new lines, then you can change the input separator. If you need more than one minimal value, you can adjust the count option. This option will make this tool return multiple smallest values. If you generate several smallest numbers, you can adjust the output separator for them. By default, it's also a new line so the smallest numbers will be printed in a vertical column but you can change it to a comma or any other character. You can also find the absolute minimum in the list. In this case, the utility compares the numbers by their modulus and prints the smallest modulus values. That's numberwang!

Find the Smallest Value

In this example, we find the minimum value in a list of six numbers. There are positive and negative integers, as well as positive and negative decimal fractions. As there are negative numbers in this list, it's obvious that the smallest number will be one of the negative values. There are two negative values, -1.5 and -2. The smallest of them is the number -2. If the absolute minimum option was active, then the minimal number would be the one closest to zero, which is 0.01.

Multiple Minimums

This example compares four rational numbers expressed as fractions p/q with p and q are integers and finds two minimums. To find them, the tool first calculates their approximate decimal values and selects the two smallest values among them. We can see that 5/6 ≈ 0.83, 1/2 = 0.5, 6/7 ≈ 0.86, and 3/4 = 0.75. Thus, the smallest value is 0.5 (which is 1/2) and the next one is 0.75 (which is 3/4).

Minimal Modulus Value

This example enables the modulus option to find the absolute minimum values in the input sequence. As the input sequence numbers are separated by semicolons, we set the input separator to this symbol. We also change the output separator to a space to show how this option works in practice. This number sequence mixes decimal numbers and fractions and to find the minimal value, fractional numbers are converted to decimal. For example, -2/5 = -0.4, 3/4 = 0.74, 4/3 ≈ 1.3, etc. Then, numbers' modulus is calculated, i.e. |-2| = 2, |-6.7| = 6.7, |3/4| = 3/4, etc. After that, all numbers are compared and the three smallest modulus values are selected and printed separated by a space.
